Tips for Decorating Your Home for the Holidays
Decorating your home for the holidays is one of the most exciting parts of the season! Try out these festive and fun ideas for making your home decor stand out for the holidays!
Scents of the Season
If you enjoy burning candles throughout the year, you probably love the holiday season! All the winter scents are available in almost every store, it seems! From pumpkin spice to pine, cranberry to mulled wine, the choices are endless. But, if burning candles isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other ways to fill your home with seasonal scents! Simmer oranges and clove on your stove for a warm and welcoming aroma, or tuck bundles of cinnamon sticks into your Christmas tree or mantel decorations, adding fragrance and texture at the same time!
Skip Traditional Colors
Nothing is more traditional than the go-to red, green, and white color combination. Take a chance and branch out from the safety of those holiday colors by adding a little spark and sparkle! Trade in the traditional crimson for dark pinks and purples. White goes with anything, but try throwing in some silver and sparkle in lieu of white, making any wreath or centerpiece shine! If you want to try something extra different, decorate in hues of blue throughout the house, from rich navy to pale dusty blue ornaments and wreaths for a unique version of holiday decor!
Bring the Outdoors In
Even though Mother Nature is in hibernation mode, the natural outdoor elements of winter can create stunning decorations! Use evergreen branches, pinecones, and firewood to create a natural and gorgeous mantlepiece. Add Christmas lights or electronic tea lights to illuminate your creation! Carve holes into wooden logs of any size to hold tea lights, making rustic candle holders for around the house. Get some birch bark sheets to wrap bowls or vases in for lovely centerpieces, or cut out leaves from the birch bark and create a beautiful and natural wreath!
Hot Cocoa Station
If you’re the kind of homeowner who has friends and family coming and going during the holiday season, treat them to a fun and festive hot cocoa station! Decorate mason jars filled with mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, and sprinkles. Keep festive coffee mugs, straws, and holiday napkins all on a side table in the entryway or kitchen so when people come to visit, they can warm up right away with a fresh cup of hot cocoa!
Showcase Your Staircase
The banister is one of the most versatile places to decorate in your home! Not just a place for garland and ribbon, the banister can be a major star in your holiday decorations. Instead of hanging your Christmas stockings on the fireplace mantel, opt to hang them down your banister, especially if you have a large family, this is a great space to utilize! You can also hang all of the holiday cards you receive down the banister for additional decoration. For a more personal touch, hang photos of your family that were taken throughout the year so you can be reminded of all the wonderful events that your family experienced!
